A Month of Birthdays and One Veganniversary

Last weekend was Booboo's birthday. She turned 5 and we had the requisite birthday picture trauma. Every year, I subject the poor girl to ribbon wearing and candle blowing. Actually, it's gotten better. For her first birthday, there were balloons & party hats- which she refused to wear and last year, she almost singed an eyebrow whisker coming too close to the candle. Hey, I'm not that bad- at least there aren't any scary clowns involved. Well this year, she wouldn't even pose for a picture til way after the candle was blown out and the residual smoke cleared. The point is that I like to make a big deal out of her birthday because I love her so much! And yes, I concede that she could care less what day it is except that she gets a sardine and lots of extra treats...

I too have a birthday coming up, next weekend to be exact. Not sure if it's this impending birthday that has put me in a funk and has given me blogger's block, or just a general feeling of malaise. I am way overdue for a juice fast- if I get around to it that will be the thing to set me straight. By the way, my one year Veganniversary was at the beginning of the month- April 1st.
It was a year ago that I did my first juice fast for four days and went from vegetarian to vegan and I have never looked back.

As I become more and more educated about the inhumane ways which animals are treated in this country, I become more and more resolute in my choice to live a vegan lifestyle. It's important to educate others around us because how can anyone not make a change towards veganism in the face of all that cruelty. I have never had a companion animal before Booboo. She has opened my eyes to all animals as sentient beings. In every animal, I see Booboo and in her, I see all animals. There is no difference. She has brought pure love, joy and compassion into my life and I am thankful.

Happy birthday to Booboo and to you! And veganniversary, of course. I love reflecting back on what has led us to make changes, and like you, I see my cats in every other animal. I can sympathize with feeling a bit of malaise before a birthday, but I'm sure you will also have a great time of it.
I can't get over those pictures of Booboo- so cute, especially the one where she's standing up. so cute!

Happy Veganniversary! Booboo is adorable.. and I'm sure she just laughs at you behind your back about her ribbon wearing.

Looking over your other posts.. how cool was that Farm benefit?... and there were other things I wanted to comment on.. but forgot now that I'm here..

Happy Birthday to you and Booboo and Happy Veganniversary. I'm sure deep down Booboo appreciates your efforts to make her birthday special. Today I patiently listened to someone tell me about how he was going to grill steaks tonight, and when I said I needed to hurry home and start dinner, he said "What do you have to do besides throw some veggies in a pot?" grrrrrr

Beautifully said. I feel the same way about animals, and my dog, Jolie. I grew up on a farm and know the intelligence and intimate relationships of cows, chickens, horses, and all. Congratulations on your Veganniversary - that's truly something to celebrate, as well as your upcoming birthday. Cheers!

Happy Birthday to both of you! And congratulations on your one year veganniversary!

What a cute kitty! I don't think mine would put up with a ribbon at all! Booboo must be a very patient and loving cat.

We don't celebrate animal birthdays, maybe we should, but I constantly tease Kyra (the dog) about how I'll make her wear a party hat... Silly, she just has these floppy ears so I can actually put hats on her and she looks soooo cute! But she hates it.

Happy birthday to Booboo - and you! I hope it is a good one. Awesome about your veganniversary. If you have any good info about juice fasting, I would love to hear it. I've fasted before, but I would call myself an amateur faster because I don't really know how to structure it to get the maximum benefit from it. Booboo is a lovely kitty, by the way!

I ♥ the Booboogirl, and you too. :D

Happy day of birth! And happy veganniversary! Fives are good years- after all, one of your favorite people was born in the fifth month, on the twenty-fifth, on the fifth day of the week, at 5:00pm, in a year divisble by five. ;) And Booboodarling happens to be five as well.

In two years, when I'm up there, for your birthday, I'm going to tie a red ribbon around your neck and put a candle in your fake sardines, feed you extra treats and make you take pictures. :D
